A Gift of Love Before the Holidays

Hey Reader

The holiday season is meant to bring joy, warmth, and connection—but we all know how easily it can spiral into stress. And stress isn’t just uncomfortable—it takes a toll on our health, our relationships, and our ability to truly enjoy the season. Make no mistake... our bodies keep score. When we’re rushed, over scheduled, or buried under clutter, our nervous system stays in “fight or flight.” Over time, that stress damages our sleep, energy, focus, and even our immune system. My mission remains the same; reduce stress and overwhelm wherever possible.

That’s why I want to give you a little gift right now: a simple plan to prepare early, reduce stress, and create space for what really matters. If you start in October and finish by the first week of December, you’ll step into the holidays ready to savor them—not just survive them.

This checklist is a collection of my favorite tried-and-true holiday strategies—gathered over the years to help you prepare early, reduce stress, and make more space for joy. Think of it as a little bundle of wisdom to guide you through the season with calm, intention & purpose.

Your Holiday Readiness Plan ✨

  • Keep It Organized Use a holiday planner or digital calendar to track progress. Schedule everything—cleaning, shopping, wrapping, traditions (tree cutting, decorating, cookie exchange).
  • Set a Budget Decide now how much you’ll spend. Protect your peace of mind and your bank account.
  • Make Your Lists Gifts, cards, cleaning, decorating, baking, events. Work backward from when you want to be “done” and slot things in.
  • Prep Cookies Early Mix and freeze dough now so the fun part—baking and decorating with your favorite people—becomes an event, not a chore.
  • Plan Cards & Meals Order or design holiday cards, update addresses, and plan menus. Stock non-perishables early. My favorite tip: bake turkey legs the week before and freeze the gravy—skip the last-minute kitchen chaos!
  • Deep Clean in Zones Start at the top (ceiling fans, shelves) and move down. Gather supplies once and keep momentum flowing.
  • Shop Smart Take advantage of Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. Keep a journal of what you buy—next year you’ll thank yourself.
  • Make Decorating an Event Spread it out over evenings, assign rooms, or turn tree-decorating into a tradition night.
  • Wrap with Joy Collect supplies in one place. Consider reusable bags or fabric wraps. Pair wrapping with your favorite holiday movie for built-in fun.
  • Finalize Details Confirm guest lists, meal contributions, travel plans, and card mailing.
  • Self-Care is Non-Negotiable Build in rest, breathing space, and simple joys to keep your body and mind healthy.
  • Spread the Cheer Attend a community event, donate, or invite someone who might otherwise be alone.

Why This Matters

By preparing early, you’re not just checking off a to-do list—you’re protecting yourself from the very real damage stress can cause. You’re creating a buffer of calm so that when the holidays arrive, you can be fully present—laughing, connecting, and making memories with the people who matter most.

This is my pre-holiday gift of love to you: a gentle reminder that organization is not about perfection, it’s about freedom. Freedom to breathe. Freedom to enjoy. Freedom to love and be loved.

So let’s begin now—together—building the kind of holiday season our future selves will thank us for.

Cheers to all that's ahead,

Amy

Hi Reader, A little something extra from me this week... I finally put my best organizing advice in one place! If you've been following me for a while, you've probably heard me say things like: Don't buy the containers first. Give it a home before you buy it. Don't zig-zag. Keeping everything makes nothing important. These aren't just organizing tips I share on social media. They're principles I use when I'm working with clients—and they're the things I find myself teaching over and over...

Hey Reader Do you ever sit down to get something done…and suddenly notice everything else? The papers beside you need to be sorted. An email arrives. Your phone lights up. You remember a completely unrelated task. Three browser tabs become fifteen—and before long, you’re busy, but the thing you intended to do hasn’t moved forward. It’s easy to assume you need more discipline. But if you’re struggling to focus, the problem may not be you. Your environment, expectations, or systems may be...

Hey Reader We’ve all said it. “I’ll deal with it later.” “I don’t have the bandwidth right now.” “I’ll circle back.” It sounds harmless. Responsible, even. But there’s a hidden cost. And your body is paying it. The Real Price of “Later” When you postpone something—an email, a bill, a decision, a conversation—you don’t actually remove it from your life. You move it into your mental background. Psychologists call this the Zeigarnik Effect: unfinished tasks stay active in the brain. Your mind...
